A high-level meeting of five Singh Sahib was held at the Secretariat of Shri Akal Takht Sahib and important decisions were taken on sensitive religious issues such as the issue of 328 sacred forms of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, restrictions on films and digital content, and rules governing the conduct of Anand Karaj. The meeting, chaired by Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargazi, Deputy Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, reaffirmed the authority of Sikh religious institutions and issued a strong warning against government interference in Sikh religious affairs.
“No government intervention”
Panj Singh Sahib emphasized that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is an elected constitutional religious body representing the Sikh community. They declared that no government had the right to interfere in the internal affairs of the Sikh religion. A warning has been issued to the Punjab government that if such interference continues, action will be taken strictly in accordance with Sikh religious traditions.
On the issue of 328 sacred forms of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Singh Sahib sect has clarified that the issue has to be resolved only through Shri Akal Takht Sahib and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. They argued that government and police involvement in this issue was inappropriate and not in the interests of the Sikh religious community.
Ban on Anand Karaj outside the Gurdwara
The meeting also reiterated that installing Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and performing Anand Karaj rituals in marriage palaces, resorts, beaches, farmhouses and other commercial establishments is strictly prohibited. Singh Sahib warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the directive.
In a major decision related to films and digital media, Panj Singh Sahib declared that films, animations and AI-generated videos depicting Sikh religious figures, martyrs, Sikh history or religious rituals will not be allowed. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has been directed to formally convey this decision to major film producers and give clear instructions not to produce films or digital content related to Sikh history without prior permission.
The decisions taken at this conference strengthen the central role of Shri Akal Takht Sahib in safeguarding the religious principles and traditions of Sikhism, while drawing a clear line against commercialization, misrepresentation and outside interference in matters of faith.
