Microsoft Named a Leader in Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for AI Application Development Platforms

Applications of AI

We believe this recognition demonstrates our commitment to pioneering agent frameworks, orchestration, and enterprise-level governance.

Recognition of AI innovation

Microsoft is Leaders in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for AI Application Development Platforms and is positioned The farthest path to completeness of vision. This leadership reflects a long-term belief that the next wave of applications will be agentic and that real customer impact will require more than a good demo. Organizations need agents that can drive business workflows based on real data and tools and can be managed with end-to-end observability at scale. Our investments in agent frameworks, orchestration, and enterprise-grade governance are how we make that complete journey real and actionable for every customer.

Why we think this is important

Gartner evaluates vendors on two dimensions: completeness of vision (where the platform is headed) and execution ability (Can it be delivered today?) Being farthest in vision isn't about having the boldest roadmap, it's about whether that vision translates into actual capabilities that customers need in the future of AI.

microsoft foundry is our unified platform for building, deploying, and managing AI applications. And over the past year, we've focused on four areas that our customers tell us differentiate production AI from proof of concept:

  • Real data, real tools. Agents are only as useful as they have access to. Foundry IQ Provides a single, secure, grounded API that connects agents to corporate data. casting tools offers over 1,400 prebuilt connectors for word processing, translation, voice, and business systems.
  • Integrate workflows beyond conversations. Moving from chatbots to agents means moving from Q&A to action. Foundry agent service Supports multi-agent orchestration, allowing agents to handle tasks, coordinate decisions, and drive end-to-end business processes. co-pilot Or application.
  • Observability and governance at scale. When agents operate autonomously, you need to see what they are doing and why. Foundry control plane Provides organization-wide visibility, audit trails, and policy enforcement. “Trust but verify” cannot be scaled without tools.
  • Cloud-to-edge model. Build and run AI models wherever your workloads live, from the cloud to the edge. Fine-tune and deploy the model casting model Run on-device with enterprise-grade GenAI Ops. local foundry For low-latency, offline, or regulated scenarios.

With these pillars in place, Foundry provides everything organizations need to build AI applications and multi-agent systems at scale. That's why we've made it work seamlessly with the tools developers and businesses use most. Foundry deeply integrates with development tools like Visual Studio Code, GitHub, Azure, and productivity tools like Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, and the broader enterprise stack.

Walking the talk: an agent-driven approach

This year, Microsoft has taken a fundamentally new approach to preparing submissions for its AI application development platform. Instead of relying on manual data collection and reconciliation, our team developed a custom agent designed to collect, organize, and validate all the information needed for the assessment.

How to create an agent:

The development of this agent is detailed in a recent blog post, outlining the technical architecture and methodology behind its creation. Agents built using our open source product, Microsoft Agent Framework, leverage advanced orchestration capabilities and multimodal content processing. It is designed to automate the complex process of assembling submission data, ensuring accuracy and completeness while reducing manual effort.

Technical highlights:

The agent uses structured prompts and workflows as specified here. It is integrated with Microsoft Foundry's platform-as-a-service (PaaS) model and supports both pay-as-you-go and provisioned throughput options.

Advantages of agent-driven processes:

By automating submission workflows, agents improve data accuracy and transparency, allowing our experts to focus on strategic insights rather than manual edits. This process was more efficient, reduced the risk of errors, and ensured submissions were comprehensive and up-to-date.

This innovation reflects Microsoft's commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement, giving customers more confidence in the quality and reliability of their AI solutions. By streamlining critical processes, Microsoft delivers more accurate, transparent, and timely updates, enabling organizations to make informed decisions and accelerate innovation with an enterprise-grade AI platform that maintains compliance and security standards.
