A video claims to show an elephant rescuing a tiger during deadly floods on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

This is an archived version of the post that has been viewed 1.3 million times. According to official data, the death toll has reached 1,030 people in Sumatra at the end of November when floods and landslides caused by the cyclone destroyed houses and forced people to seek refuge in evacuation centers, with 206 people still missing.

News Checker found no such videos featured in widespread coverage of the deadly floods. Additionally, the blurry quality of the tiger and the overly smooth texture of the water strongly suggest that the video was generated using AI.
We ran some screengrabs through WasitAI, an AI image detector. WasitAI believed that the image, or a significant part of it, was created by AI. Similarly, AIorNot found that it was likely generated by AI.



I then ran an excerpt of the video that passed through Hive Moderation. We have confirmed that this viral video is not from a real incident as it has a 98.6% chance of containing AI-generated or deepfake content.
