Amidst all the buzz about humanoid robots, China's “hospitals of the future” are grabbing the internet's attention after an Indian woman recently offered a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the country's ultra-modern public health facilities.
The viral video posted by Paris (@_parified) on Instagram captures her journey as she prepares for surgery at a public hospital in China. She documents each step of the preoperative routine, starting with the automatic shoe dispensing machine. Just scan her ID and a brand new, sterile pair of shoes will drop out, without any human input.
Next, we introduce the automatic scrub dispenser. Once again, there was a quick ID scan and size selection, and the hospital scrubs were passed through a fully mechanized system. “There's no need to wait. There's no need for human intervention,” she said.
Paris then points to the AI-powered surgical trolley, an autonomous robot that transports medical equipment and drugs throughout the hospital. She explains that the system is designed to minimize human error and increase efficiency during operations.
She also shows viewers a huge digital surgical dashboard installed in the hospital lobby. The screen shows surgeries scheduled for that day, surgeries currently in progress, and surgeries that are still pending. It also includes an elaborate 3D layout of the hospital, showing you exactly where each surgery is taking place in real time.
There are even more digital boards just outside the operating room, listing the names of the lead surgeon, assistants, nursing staff and anesthesiologist, as well as a live timer to track the time for each procedure. The monitor also displays technical details such as temperature and humidity levels within the operating room.
Toward the end of the video, Paris documents the post-surgery protocols, including an automated system for disposing of used shoes and scrubs.
