The Kaduna State University College of Pharmacy (KASU) on Monday, December 1, 2025, held the seventh installment of its monthly seminar series focused on practical applications of artificial intelligence in modern research.
The seminar was led by Umar Mukhtar Danmusa, lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, and explored how AI can complement human intelligence and ease some of the most demanding aspects of literature reviews. He noted that traditional reviews are often time-consuming, repetitive, and labor-intensive barriers that AI tools can overcome by enabling faster searches and smarter synthesis of information.

Danmusa also noted that journal policies regarding AI are becoming increasingly common, noting that AI cannot be listed as an author, that most journals require disclosure of AI-assisted works, and that restrictions remain on scientific content generated by AI. He warned participants to be wary of AI-generated citations, citing risks such as bias from fabricated references and training datasets.
During the session, participants utilized a variety of cutting-edge tools, including Consensus for answering scientific questions, Perplexity for cited answers, Scispace for automated article analysis, Generative AI Assistant for drafting, and Zotero for research organization and bibliography management.
Hands-on hands-on sessions allowed participants to test these tools in real-time, demonstrating how AI, when used responsibly, can streamline literature reviews while maintaining academic integrity.
This seminar reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to providing students and researchers with the digital research skills essential to today’s rapidly evolving scientific landscape.
