Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reportedly asked executives who blocked the use of AI, “Are you insane?” — Assure employees that their jobs are not at risk because of AI
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was allegedly recorded telling employees to use AI more while assuring them that AI tools would not replace them. The head of the AI chip giant reportedly said this at an all-hands meeting after a record quarter, and his words have been leaked. business insider. The remarks reportedly came during the same meeting in which Huang said the market didn’t appreciate the company’s “incredible” quarter and complained that Nvidia’s stock price had fallen despite strong absolute performance.
“My understanding is that there are executives at Nvidia who are telling their employees to use less AI. Are you sane?” Huang said in the recording. “I want to automate with artificial intelligence every task that can be automated with artificial intelligence. I promise you, you will have work to do.”
This move to use more AI tools is happening across industries, especially among big tech companies like Meta and Microsoft. These two giants require their employees to use AI, and the use of such tools is part of their evaluation. business insider Additionally, Google is telling its engineers to use AI for coding, while Amazon employees are reportedly asking the company to adopt its AI coding tool, Cursor.
On the other hand, with the spread of AI, most employees are wary of being replaced by machines. Experts and industry leaders have also warned of this trend, with Ford CEO Jim Farley saying half of America’s white-collar jobs could disappear and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei saying it could cause job losses of up to 20% over the next five years. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Oak Ridge National Laboratory study also created a labor simulation tool that estimates up to 11.7% of workers are at risk of being replaced by AI.
Nevertheless, Jensen Huang reportedly reassured employees that they were in no danger of being replaced by the technology. Despite introducing the use of AI tools, Nvidia continues to hire talent, hiring more than 6,000 new employees in the last fiscal year. And as layoffs in the tech industry increase, Huang says the company likely needs about 10,000 more staff.
It makes sense for Huang and Nvidia to encourage their employees to use AI. After all, that’s how the former gaming GPU maker became the first company in the world to reach a $5 trillion market capitalization. However, this is just a tool to improve employee productivity and should not completely replace employees.
