US President Donald Trump posted an Ai-Olted video on Monday on social media, chuckling Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House minority leader Hakem Jeffries as the US is close to potential government shutdowns.The clip depicts Schumer playing Mariaci music in the background and speaking on the podium in a digitally altered voice, saying, “There's no way to pour sugar. People who Democrats like anymore don't like them anymore… Even Latinos don't hate us.Jeffries wears a sombrero and handlebar mustache along with Schumer.The video comes amidst the White House's stagnant negotiations on government funding, focusing primarily on healthcare policies. The deadline for funds is midnight Tuesday and trades must be reached by Wednesday to prevent the closure.Democrats have accused the video of a misleading racist. Jeffries posted on X.
Schumer also replied: “If you think your shutdown is a joke, it's just to prove that we all know. You can't negotiate. Patty Murray, a top Democrat on the Appropriations Committee, warned that the closure could double the health insurance premiums for millions of Americans, according to Newsweek.Despite meetings Monday in the White House with Trump, Schumer, Jeffreys, Senate majority leader John Tune and Speaker Johnson, the two sides remain far apart. “There is still a huge difference between us,” Schumer said after the meeting.
