Openai's new SORA 2 AI video generator uses copyrighted work by default

AI Video & Visuals

20 months is AI forever. Openai, the maker of ChatGpt, released the Sora AI video and audio generator in February 2024, and while the clarity of the image was shockingly realistic, it wasn't difficult to realize that it would bend physics and break the illusion of reality.

As Openai explained, Sora bends and teleports the visual to “morph objects and successfully execute reality to a text prompt.” When it launched the SORA 2 on September 30, 2025, Openai said it had taken a huge leap.

We still know that something is off in many videos, but it certainly seems to be much more tightly compared to the first iteration of SORA. But the real concern is that Openai still sucks up copyrighted material by default. So how many people will unconsciously feed the beast that will (potentially) eat the audience?

Openai sees Sora 2 as a big leap

“The original SORA model from February 2024 was in many ways a GPT-1 moment in video,” OpenAI wrote a blog post on September 30, 2025, announcing the arrival of the Sora 2. He added that it is in the early stages compared to language-centric generation AI, such as chatgpt, video and audio generation models. Language-focused AI still looks like a baby, so video-centric AI must be indeed a fetus.

“In SORA 2, we're jumping straight to what we think is a GPT ‑ 3.5 moment in the video,” Openai's announcement continued.

Reuters A representative from Openai said copyright holders, including television and film studios, must opt out of introducing their works to Sora 2's video feed, a policy that takes over from the existing SORA image generator terms of use.

Such opt-out permissions are frankly smoke. They automatically scoop people by default by “choosing” people, allowing their work to be sucked up through mere inaction or carelessness.

Opt-in permissions for SORA 2 to work with copyright by default do not have It's much more fair to include.

You can already download the newly launched Sora iOSApp for Apple iPhone. Android users are unlucky, but once they receive the invitation, they can access SORA 2 via SORA 2.

SORA 2 is available in the US and Canada and is free to use at first.

CHATGPT PRO subscribers can also use the “experimental, high quality” SORA 2 Pro model from SORA.com. It is not available on the Sora iOS app, but the Sora 2 Pro needs to be “quickly”. If you want to become a filmmaker right away thanks to Sora 2, know that the video only takes up to 10 seconds.
