Meta is rolling out a new feature called “Vibes” within the Meta AI app and within Meta.ai. This has already triggered a response online. Feeds are essentially the meta answer to Tiktok and Instagram reels, but there's one big twist. All videos are generated by AI. This new feature was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an Instagram post showing examples of what Vibes can do. One clip shows Mark's Disney-style 3D avatar, while the other was a cat kneading the dough. The third video depicts an ancient Egyptian woman snapping a selfie against a pyramid background. According to Meta, users can create videos from scratch or remix the content that appears in their feed. Editing tools allow you to layer your visuals, change styles, add background music, and post directly to your vibe feed or cross-share on Instagram and Facebook stories and reels. Over time, the feed will adapt to individual preferences using Meta's algorithm.
Behind the scenes, Meta has partnered with Midjourney and Black Forest Labs to carry early versions of the vibe, but the company also says it is developing its own in-house AI video model. Meta's AI Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang confirmed the collaboration in a blog post.
This feature highlights Meta's ambitions in AI, but the reception was less positive. Users of Zuckerberg's announcement laughed at the rollout. One general comment added, “Bro is posting AI slops on his own app.” Another added, “When I say, I think I'll talk for everyone: What…?”
The timing is particularly noteworthy as platforms like YouTube are working to curb the flooding of low-quality AI content. Earlier this year, Meta herself warned creators against posting “non-original” content, urging them to focus on authentic storytelling. This is a conflicting message with this new launch.
Still, the vibe rollout reflects Meta's bigger strategy of doubling AI amid tough competition with Openai, Anthropic and Google Deepmind.
