Dhami said that Sri Darbar Sahib is the central shrine of the Sikh community, from which a universal message of brotherhood spreads across all humanity, but the misuse of technology by some people has deeply hurt Sangat's emotions.
In warning against the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in creating false videos related to Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple), President Harjinder Singh Dhami of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has tampered with Sikh sentiments and called for the government to immediately halt such practices.
In a statement issued by the office, Dhami said that such AI-generated videos not only violate the basic principles of Sikhism, but also undermine religious sensibility worldwide. He said that Sri Dhabah Sahib is the central shrine of the Sikh community, from which a universal message of brotherhood spreads across all humanity, but the misuse of technology by some people has deeply hurt Sangat's feelings.
The SGPC president said it's unfortunate that AI technology is being misused. He added that it is the government's Cybercrime cell duty to take concrete steps to stop such incidents. He recalled that while SGPC previously spread through AI about Gurbani, Sikh's history and Gurus' teachings, it managed to approach various platforms on misinformation and report and delete many videos.
Dami further said this is a very serious problem. To stop behavior that hurts religious emotions, SGPC will soon host meetings with individuals and institutions working in this field. He also appealed to the Indian government to treat this as a serious issue, taking necessary measures, and formulated solid policies to curb this trend.
Instead of stopping the distribution of such false videos, the SGPC president has expressed concern that some people have posted them on the page to show that something wrong is happening. He appealed to such people that instead of promoting such videos, they should report them to make sure they were blocked.
