(Yicai) September 22 – Huawei Technologies has launched the Tiangong initiative and pledged to invest $100 million (US$140.6 million) of funds and resources to support the development of the Harmonyos artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The Tiangong Initiative focuses on the incubation of over 10,000 AI-Native meta services, 1,000 intention frameworks and 5,000 intelligent agents, and accelerates the development of the metacomputing platform, president of Huawei's consumer cloud services business.
According to the latest Huawei data, the number of terminal devices running Harmonyos 5 is over 17 million. However, Harmonyos still faces challenges when building a robust app ecosystem compared to iOS and Android despite its rapid growth, industry insiders added that the Tiangong initiative is Huawei's strategic response to address this gap.
Huawei open sources the Xiaoyi Intelligent Agent Platform, providing four development models and over 50 development components to lower the barriers to creating intelligent agents, Zhu said.
Global tech giants are fiercely competing in the intelligent agent space. For example, Google is leveraging strong AI expertise to maintain the first-mover advantage of Voice Assistant, but Apple has introduced Apple Intelligence and redefines its app experience at the system level.
Leveraging Harmonios' architecture, Huawei builds a seamless cross-device AI experience that allows users to easily switch AI services between smartphones, tablets and in-car systems.
At Huawei Connect, the company introduced the Xiaoyi task space feature. It allows you to autonomously schedule over 120 tools and third-party agents in eight key scenarios, including office productivity and travel planning.
Intelligent agents provide a personalized experience for medium users, according to Guo Tianxiang, research manager at International Data Corporation China. Smartphone makers are now entering the second phase of AI mobile phones, focusing on AI models on devices to achieve true AI differentiation, he added.
The technological shift from the search model of Personal Computer Era to the mobile ERA app ecosystem to the era of emerging intelligent agents is reshaping the business landscape. A spokesman for Huawei's consumer cloud services business said on Huawei Connect. “In the age of intelligent agents, small and medium-sized developers have the opportunity to break through traffic barriers,” they noted.
“The industry is focusing on Harmonios' exploration of AI and meta services, but such efforts cannot be relied solely on Huawei,” according to staff in the mobile technology division of China's Fintech Giant Ant Group. “We need to collaborate with thousands of apps from different industries.”
According to Huawei data, OpenHarmony has attracted over 9,200 contributors and launched over 1,300 software and hardware products across industries such as finance, transportation and education.
Huawei has received more than 10 million user feedback submissions from OpenHarmony, 96% of which have been dealt with quickly.
