
Park Forest, Illinois – (ENEWSPF) – Park Forest Public Library offers a variety of events for users of all ages, including mindfulness training in May. To learn stress-reducing techniques, try to better understand artificial intelligence or get some new cooking tips and check out these library events.


The “no pressure” community read choice in May is “counting my lies” by Sophie Stava. The Good Morning America Book Club selection follows Sloan Caraway. After entering the household, she discovers that she is not the only person to lie, and the perfect life of the family painting holds a dangerous secret.
Free copy of the book can be picked up at the library on Thursday, May 1st from 11am.
Events for the elderly
The library hosts several events in May that explicitly target seniors.

Mindfulness Training
Joining Mental Health Specialist Felicia Marie Houston, to “foster mental wellness in a golden age” on Thursday, May 8th at 11am, Houston will teach you the benefits of stress reduction and mindfulness training techniques, how to recognize depression and anxiety, and the benefits of social connection. Registration is encouraged and will open on May 1st.

Chef Susan Maddox will be in the library on Saturday, May 10th at 1pm. She discusses some amazing fruits and vegetables from summer gardens and farmers' markets awaiting exploration. Patrons may stop by recipes and samples. Registration for this event is required and will open on May 3rd.

The basics of artificial intelligence (AI)
It seems like everyone is talking about AI – what it is, what it can do, the possibilities, and the dangers. Join the extremely clever people Mike Gershbein on Wednesday, May 7th from 5pm to 6:30pm for a presentation covering the history of AI, the technology that drives it, and its future meaning. Gershbein explains popular AI sites and how to use them.

Two virtual events in May
The library will be holding two virtual events in May. One is characterized by cooking and a well-known author discussing poverty in the United States.
On Wednesday, May 21st, at 6:30pm, Krystyn Slick's virtual cooking class, “The East Feast of the Mediterranean: Sun Flavor,” delves into the flavors of healthy dishes made with fresh herbs, spices and ingredients. Subscribers will receive the recipe two weeks before class and be able to purchase the necessary ingredients in advance.

The Illinois Library sponsors its second virtual session in May. It features the author and Princeton sociology professor Matthew Desmond. On Tuesday, May 13th, at 7pm, Desmond and journalist Natalie Moore discuss research into poverty, housing insecurity, public policies affecting poverty and racial inequality in the United States.
You must register for this virtual event. All registered participants will receive a zoom link to access the presentation.
Manga and Star Wars

The library will be celebrating a free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 3rd from 11am to 1pm. Do Art Productions will hold interactive comic book workshops for all ages. Participants will explore the various language styles adopted in the comics. Each participant will receive a free comic to take home.

From 4:30pm to 6pm on Monday, May 5th, the library will invite teens to “Revenge of the 5th,” a Star Wars-themed craft and activity event. Artist Dan Gogh draws Star Wars-themed caricatures for registered patrons.

The 400 Lakewood Boulevard library is open for all services, Monday through Thursday through Thursday from 10am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. However, in honor of Memorial Day, it will not open on Monday, May 26th.
