Tasek Gelugor Congress member Wan Saifal Wan Jan has revealed that the number of Malaysian politicians has received threatening emails containing explicit content from doctors is increasing.
He revealed the issue in a Facebook post, saying that he only discovered the email when he casually checked his spam folders during breakfast in his constituency.
“In fact, more and more lawmakers have received this scary email email. They probably don't notice it, as in my case, because they've gotten into a spam folder,” he writes.
According to Wan Saiful, the email resembles that other lawmakers received, and is said to have been sent by an individual who claims to be a “private investigator” who owns material to compromise and is demanding a ransom of 100,000 US dollars (approximately RM420,000).
“It also included a QR code for payment and a photo of the bed. The images I received look similar to those sent to other lawmakers,” he said, adding that he intends to report the matter to the authorities.
He expressed confidence that the public understands that images and videos are being produced.
Previously, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) confirmed that it had received four police reports from Congress and state legislators on attempts to fear tor, including distributing fake, explicit videos.
The report was submitted by Subang MP Wong Chen. Senator Datuk Nelson W. Angang; Kulim State Congressman Wong Chia Zhen; Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
Datuk M Kumar, director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CID), said the recipient reported that they received an email from an unknown source on September 12th.
“The suspect requested a payment of USD 100,000 (approximately RM420,000) for a video believed to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology for fear tor.
“If demand is not met within three days, fake porn videos using the likeness will be circulating on social media,” he said in a statement.
This case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Criminal Code on Compression and is investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services.
According to Kumar, PDRM is working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to track email senders and gather more information to support ongoing investigations.
He also issued a harsh warning that individuals involved in the production, dissemination, or misuse of such material will face uncompromising legal action.
“The police will not compromise with parties seeking to threaten national security, public order or social harmony,” he said. – September 15, 2025
