Microsoft has chased Meta's AI talent with a multi-million dollar offer and this year, as Business Insider recently reported on an internal document, released new payroll guidelines at Carve Out to make the offer more competitive.

The company cut thousands of employees this year while claiming it The staff remains flat, We will continue to propose recruitment plans.

Business Insider analyzed approximately 300 submissions in a spreadsheet from those identified as US software engineers to determine wage ranges and averages by level and organization. A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment.

Microsoft employees usually voluntarily share this information anonymously to promote wage transparency, which means that the data is not formal or comprehensive. The company had 228,000 employees on June 30, so the spreadsheet with around 850 submissions will provide a small snapshot.

Employees with high wage or seniority may have less contributions to such spreadsheets, and their pay ranges may be skewed lower than the total representatives of the workforce.

While much of the compensation in the tech industry is stock-based, base salary is a convenient way to compare different teams across the company. According to figures shared by employees in this spreadsheet, the average base wages for various Microsoft groups are as follows:

  • Cloud + AI: $204,135
  • Commerce + Ecosystems: $191,597
  • Security: $189,285
  • Azure: $176,035
  • Experience and Devices: $175,123
  • Microsoft AI: $170,456
  • Xbox: $168,831
  • Coreai: $167,759

Business Insider recently reported Microsoft's internal payroll guidelines, revealing that it generally offers new recruiting in its engineering and research roles in the US.

The self-report scope of base salaries, bonuses, and equity awards by existing employees in this spreadsheet is generally skewed below the scope set out in the official guidelines for new hires.

Again, this may be because employees with high compensation and seniority often contribute to such spreadsheets.
