Collaboration aims to strengthen teaching, research and faculty by integrating cutting-edge technologies and strategies
Baltimore -Based on its ongoing efforts to enrich the campus learning environment through AI integration, Morgan State University is working with the Amazon-Machine Learning University (MLU) Educators Consortium and the Amazon-MLU Transformation Alliance to enhance Kalilic and research by incorporating AI and machine learning (ML) concepts and tools.
Morgan is one of several institutions participating in this effort, historically aimed at developing comprehensive AI education pathways within Black universities and universities (HBCU), ultimately preparing students for a burgeoning and desirable AI/ML career. Participating Morgan faculty will be engaged in a series of monthly activities, including training boot camps, AI/ML education labs, high-tech talk, and roundtable discussions aimed at advancing knowledge in these areas.
“This mutually beneficial collaboration furthers our commitment to stay at the forefront of educational innovation and advances the institutional aspirations of AI,” says Morgan State University's Dean of the Academic Bureau. “Accepting the benefits of integrating AI into the classroom, we support students and faculty with the skills and knowledge needed to adapt and excel in the rapidly evolving modern society.”
The Amazon MLU Transformation Alliance combines Amazon leadership with educators and administrators to help build institutional capabilities in AI/ML education and research. Through comprehensive technical bootcamps, virtual training sessions, and year-round professional development opportunities, educators will acquire expertise in AI and ML concepts powered by AWS Cloud Technology. For the 2025-26 cohort, Morgan has 10 faculty members and represents at least four schools.
The program, launched in February 2025, began with the first MLU-HBCU AI/ML Teaching and Research Symposium, marking the ongoing training and support activities. Participating institutions have access to open source content that seamlessly integrates with existing curricula, allowing the development of new courses and programs.
During this inauguration year, the program will help serve more than 250,000 students to 200 faculty and 25 executive administrators through a nine-month cohort focused on building AI/ML teaching capabilities. Through comprehensive technical bootcamps, virtual training sessions, and year-round professional development opportunities, educators will acquire expertise in cutting-edge AI/ML concepts powered by AWS Cloud Technology.
“The Machine Learning University (MLU) Educator Consortium and Transformation Alliance are transformational programs that highlight their key role in fostering innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning. By uniting industry leaders with Morgan State University educators and researchers, these cohorts promote the prominent cross-polination of ideas and inherit development in key areas. said Daryl Hammett, a graduate of HBCU and director of delivery and AI platforms at Amazon Web Services. “The MLU team at Amazon deserves praise for defending this important initiative, celebrating the inexplicable connection between inclusion and progress.”
Now, Amazon is working with 29 HBCU to promote the talent of a diverse range of engineers while democratizing access to the industry-aligned artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) curricula.
