An Openai engineer said some of the company's “best” talents focused on debugging AI models.
Openai Chief Data Scientist Jakub Pachocki and Openai Technology Fellows of Szymon Sidor recently appeared on the “AGI Before AGI” podcast where they chatted about their work at the company.
What makes an easy exchange of episodes stand out it's not And it's an indicator of how Big Tech Sircles, as a star employee, was protected during the AI talent war.
“We've hired more people who are really good at debugging with open-rides,” Sidl said, talking about the importance of debugging AI models. “And I think they are some of our best employees, and I too…”
Before Sidor completes his thoughts (he says he won't go into “details”), another person on the podcast inserts by saying “no name” before he hears the laughter.
It is unknown who jumped in without a name. It was either Openai's Pachocki or Podcast host Aleksander Mądry. Normally it's easy to understand by watching the video version of a podcast, but some of the exchanges are not in both the video versions published on YouTube and X (you can hear that bit in the audio-only versions of Spotify and Apple podcasts.) Business Insider contacted Madry and Openai for comments.
Mądry, host of “AGI Before Agi”, is a MIT professor who works at Openai on vacation from university and is the director of MIT Deployable Machine Learning.

Regardless of why no exchanges are found in the video version of the podcast (it is entirely possible that the video version was simply edited for length, flow, or other reasons), if not particularly surprising, if not particularly surprising to me, it would be reluctant to drop the names of employees I feel are Sidor's “best”
After all, Mark Zuckerberg reportedly created a list of AI stars names to poach for Meta's super intelligence lab, successfully hired ChatGPT co-creator and former lead scientist at Openai, Shengjia Zhao, and expanded on AI founder Alexandr Wang and others.
Sam Altman said earlier this year that Meta is offering reward packages of up to $100 million to top researchers at his company, and Google recently hired Windsurf CEO and several employees who are scheduled to join Openai.
This is a full battle over the talent of top AI. So, Openai engineers might want to be tight.
