The well-known Cambridge University alumnus began his career as a strategist at Goldman Sachs before an 11-year stint with Meta. In October 2023, he left Openai Meta. This is the company that revolutionized ChatGpt and AI racing. Just a year later, he moved from Openai to Thinking Machines Lab. It is the AI startup targeted by Mark Zuckerberg's poaching blitz, and is valued at a $12 billion seed round despite not launching the product yet.
He's talking about Andrew Tarock, who could potentially win $1.5 billion in six years, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Who is Andrew Tullock?
Andrew Tulloch is a machine learning expert and co-founder of Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab, aiming to adopt AI beyond chatbots.
He's been involved in the news ever since it was revealed that he was the man who turned down Meta's incredible nine-figure offer. The journal report noted that even in Silicon Valley, where big payrolls don't raise eyebrows, it's rare for someone to turn down a nine-figure salary.
Those familiar with the issue say the $1.5 billion figure is subject to bonuses and stock performance.
But Meta spokesman Andy Stone called the offer's explanation “inaccurate and ridiculous.” Stone added that the compensation package is based on rising stocks, according to the report.
A Wired report said Zuckerberg was looking to recruit researchers from Meta's new Superintelligence unit, Thinking Machines Lab. But no one in TML has accepted his offer.
Andrew Tulloch's Virus LinkedIn Profile
Screenshots of Tulloch's work experience listed on his LinkedIn profile are now viral on social media.
The screenshot charts the trajectory of his dreams, from Goldman Sachs to Meta and ultimately Thinking Machine Lab.
On his own website, Tulloch said he attended “graduate school in mathematics and statistics at Trinity College, Cambridge, and graduated (highest grades).” He also holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney.
Between his bachelor's and master's degrees, Tulloch worked for Facebook. “Before graduate school, I worked on machine learning systems on Facebook from April 2012 to October 2013, working on all aspects of the advertising machine learning platform, from functional engineering to real-time service systems,” he explained.
