Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday that the creation of close artificial intelligence is “visible now” and marks a “new era of personal empowerment.”
Rather than instructing AI to automate work, Zuckerberg said that Meta's approach is “different from others in the industry” as it focuses on developing AI tensions to benefit AI's personal lives.
“AI continues to accelerate and over the past few months, we have begun to give glimpses of AI systems improving ourselves,” Zuckerberg said in a video posted to Facebook. “So, while the development of the director is now visible, there's this big, unresolved question as to what we should direct.”
“I think the even more meaningful impact in our lives will come from everyone who will help you achieve your goals, create what you want to see in the world, become a better friend and grow to be the person you want,” Zuckerberg said.
Last month, Zuckerberg announced the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company's new unit working on developing these new technical capabilities. Zuckerberg said the superintelligence venture is projected to cost a meta of “thousands of billions of dollars.” The company also has plans to build several AI “super clusters” for the development of super intelligence. One of them is expected to be completed by next year.
People are increasingly turning their eyes to AI chatbots for personal reasons, A survey from Elon University found that 51% of respondents used a larger linguistic model for personal efforts rather than work-related activities.
Zuckerberg added in the video that he believes “personal devices like glasses” are a major part of the emergency situation in everyday life and could nod to Meta's AI glasses development.
“I have a deep belief in building something personal and close for everyone,” Zuckerberg said. “And at Meta, we have the resources to build the large infrastructure we need and the ability to provide new technology to billions of people.”
Meta is adopted for the top talent of AI. Openai CEO Sam Altman last month said Meta was trying to poach Openai employees by offering a $100 million bonus and compensation package. Altman added, “So far, none of our best people have decided to take it up.”
