Google's Notebooklm can now create slideshows narrated with AI

AI Video & Visuals

Google's NoteBookLM gets a new video overview feature that uses AI to create narrated slideshows. The feature is currently being deployed in English, and Google says support for “more languages” will soon be coming.

“You can think of these as visual alternatives to audio overviews. AI hosts create new visuals that help explain the points while pulling images, diagrams, quotes and numbers from documents,” according to the blog post. “This will be uniquely effective in explaining data, demonstrating processes, and making it more concrete in abstract concepts.” Google plans to introduce “additional formats” in the future. Based on the demo video, the video overview has handy playback controls, including the ability to skip back and forth at 10 seconds to set the playback speed.

Google has also announced an update to the Notebooklm Studio tab. This tab allows you to generate audio and video overviews, research guides, briefing documents and more in your app. The biggest change is that multiple studio outputs of the same type can be created and saved in a single notebook. This means you can create multiple audio overviews and view information from your working notebook.

There are also visual updates in the Studio tab. There are four tiles at the top to create an audio overview, a video overview, a mind map and a report, Google says. Studio changes will be rolled out to all users “over the coming weeks.”
