What is the story

YouTube has announced a new suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools with shorts features. The highlight of the update is a cross-image tool that allows you to turn photos from your camera roll into 6-second animated video. This feature is powered by Google's VEO 2 video generation model, and is available free of charge in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with wider availability expected later.

YouTube will also add a hub for “AI Playground”

In addition to inter-image tools, YouTube also introduces new AI effects and an “AI Playground” hub. AI effects give creators the opportunity to add more creativity to their content, but the AI Playground serves as a dedicated space to explore these generation tools. It includes pre-filled prompts, inspirational examples and easy access to all generation tools. YouTube has also confirmed that all AI-generated content will feature SynthID watermarks and clear labels for transparency.

YouTube says “Heart of Shorts is human creativity.”

Despite the introduction of these advanced tools, YouTube emphasizes that human creativity is at the heart of shorts. The company said, “Though these tools are here to make them even more fun, don't forget that your unique creativity really makes your shorts shine.”
