The Edtech platform Brightchamps has released what it claims to be the world's largest student-led survey of AI in education. The report captures the voices of 1,425 students from 29 countries, including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
The report reveals deep concerns about the future. Approximately 38% of Indian students, and 36% worldwide, are concerned about the safety of their work in an AI-driven world. In India, 63% of the students surveyed regularly use AI, and ChatGpt has emerged as the most commonly used tool.
The data also reveals a disconnect between use and understanding. Only 34% of students around the world say they understand how AI works, and 29% admit that they don't validate the answers generated by AI. 20% admit to believing the wrong answer from AI tools. In India, half of respondents struggle to determine whether the image or video is authentic or produced by Ai.
Currently, only 10% of students are confident in their knowledge. 75% of Indian students believe that AI education should be officially introduced in schools. 56% of students said it would help them navigate the waves of AI, not just from schools and parents.
“This report is a window into how they use AI, what excites them, and what scares them,” said Ravi Bhushan, founder and CEO of Brightchamps. “Most importantly, as adults, educators, policymakers and innovators, they teach us what we need to do to truly prepare them for the future, wherever we are.
Important findings challenge the general narrative of children's misuse of AI. According to the report, 95% of Indian students said they have never used cheats using AI, reflecting a global figure of 86%. Instead, the majority report using AI for homework, classroom learning and language support.
The report suggests that beyond technical tools we are looking for guidance and frameworks that will help students think critically and help them use them responsibly. In an era of rapid technological change, students' messages are clear. They want to prepare, not the police.
Meanwhile, Google is currently offering a free one-year subscription to Gemini 2.5Pro for students over 18 in India. This is a recent Google-Kantar report revealed that 95% of Indian students using Gemini are confident in their daily lives.
Students can use Gemini to receive unlimited homework help, exam preparation and writing assistance. The plan also includes expanding access to our complete suite of most advanced AI tools.
Students can receive personal research support in deep research, organize notes with 5x limits in notebooks, brainstorm loudly on Gemini Live, create dynamic videos from text or photos using Gemini and Flow VEO 3, and get AI support directly on your favorite Google apps such as Gmail, Docs, Sheet, and more.
