Slack uses AI to help business users quickly understand the confusing company language and focus on the most important tasks. The Communications Platform has announced that it will be adding “soon” the ability to explain workplace terminology. We also announced that AI writing assistants for Slack canvas will be added, which automate repetitive writing tasks such as incorporating conversations and notes.
The AI Message Context feature instantly describes messages that contain acronyms or unfamiliar phrases when the user hovers over them with their cursor. For company terminology and terminology, Slack says the feature can help you break down project names, internal tools, or team-specific shorthand, based on the user's workspace vocabulary and conversation history. The idea is to save users time by avoiding searching for these terms manually or bugging them to explain them to colleagues.
The writing assistants featured on the canvas are similarly aimed at streamlining workflows so that users can focus on more important tasks. You can generate project briefs based on Slack conversations, extract and assign action items, and rewrite content to suit a variety of tones, such as formal and friendly. You can also provide a full transcript of Slack Huddle Meeting to highlight the key points raised.
The AI-generated action item feature will soon summarise task requirements when users are mentioned in messages containing follow-ups, deadlines, or requests, and help them prioritize the highest priority tasks. Slack also introduces an AI profile summary that provides an overview of the role of another user and a recent contribution to giving a user context at a glance about unfamiliar teammates. All of the above features are in the pipeline, but Slack doesn't specify when it will be available.
However, Slack has announced that two other features are now generally available. Paid Enterprise Plan users can access Slack's Enterprise Search Chatbot. It uses information drawn from Workspace's database to answer questions, but AI-powered translations are now fully available to customers in business plans.
