Using multiple image verification tools, including Google Reverse Image Search and Invid Bisification, GhanaFact investigated the images and discovered that they had been digitally altered.

Recycled claims currently animated by AI

Meanwhile, in June 2025, images of the same doctor resurfaced in video format.

Using Deepfake technology, we converted images into videos, created movements and gestures, and it looked as if Akufo-Addo and Serwaa Broni were real. This recreation gives false content a justification for new life and recirculation of content.

AI and politics

This video is part of a wider trend in the increasing use of AI to create politically leaning disinformation. Previously, operations were largely limited to changing static images and audio recordings.

Today, technology has evolved dramatically. AI tools, including Deepfake Technology, can convincingly simulate real people who speak, move and act in a lively way.

Ghana Fact monitored a surge in AI-generated content designed to politically discredit its enemies, upset public opinion, boost engagement and make politically ocky. This was particularly evident in the 2024 election, when AI-generated content was used in political propaganda.

A more recent example of AI-generated misinformation content involving the CEOs of Ghana Gold Commission (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi and Patricia Asiedua (Nana Agrada) was the Dollar Gift Saga.

Conclusion

The circular video depicting the former president and Selwa Broni is fraudulent content. AI will be generated using doctor images prior to 2022.

This is a classic case of recycled misinformation, which uses advanced technology to promote negative public sentiment.
