Indonesia is investigating cooperation with the UK on AI, a digital tech

Jakarta (Antara) – Nezar Patria's Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Affairs investigated potential collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) with the UK at the London Institute of Technology in 2025.

On Tuesday, Patria met with the Director-General of the Science, Innovation and Technology Bureau of Digital Technology and Telecommunications, the UK Government, to exchange experience and best practices in digital technology development.

“This conference was invaluable for exchanging and learning opinions from the UK's experience in developing advanced digital ecosystems, particularly in the field of AI,” Patria informed at a press conference received on Wednesday.

Key areas of discussion include developing AI infrastructure, training digital talent, and developing adaptive regulatory frameworks to ensure the safety, ethical and beneficial use of AI.

“We are committed to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in facing future challenges and opportunities in the AI ​​sector,” he added.

During the meeting, representatives of both countries shared priorities and initiatives in building an inclusive AI ecosystem.

The UK has emphasized over four years of investments of over 1 billion euros in AI computing research and the establishment of large data centres.

Meanwhile, Indonesia emphasized its focus on improving computing power through data centre construction, AI chip development and intersector collaboration.

Regarding digital talent, Indonesia has repeated its ongoing efforts to organize training programs and classes to build digital skills to achieve its goal of producing 9 million digital talent by 2030.

Meanwhile, the UK has shared information on comprehensive programs to stimulate interest in technology among schoolchildren, fundmaster and doctoral programs, providing training to existing workers that will help them adapt to AI-driven changes in the labour market.

The two countries also highlighted the need for a strong AI governance framework to ensure the implementation of safe and ethical AI.
