The introduction of VEO 3 video generation on Google Gemini was a game changer. The feature was initially limited to subscribers with the Google AI Ultra plan, but was introduced in May with the $20/month AI Protia, which expanded the tool's capabilities to a wider audience. Google is taking it a step further by offering new limited time features.
Google has announced that it will deploy the VEO 3 feature to all users of the Gemini app until the end of the weekend. However, according to the Google Gemini account on X/Twitter, users will be limited to just three generations from the beginning of the weekend until 10pm PT on Sunday, August 24th.
As 9to5Google points out, Gemini and Google Labs head Josh Woodward revealed on Thursday that the team is set up.”Warm them with TPU load“Now it's related to this new weekend promotion for free Gemini users.
One of my free accounts currently has access to VEO 3 Fast (preview) on the Gemini mobile and web app (gemini.google.com). If available, Gemini greets the user with a message about including sound in the VEO 3 video. The text at the bottom of this box (pictured above) also mentions free VEO 3 access over the weekend only. A similar prompt will also be displayed when opening the Gemini Web App.
I don't have much time to try it
This is a great way for users to become familiar with short videos generated by AI, especially if they have not tried it before. You might argue that three videos in a short amount of time are not insufficient to gain Veo 3 features, but Google's plan here is to connect users to tools and turn them into potentially paid subscribers.
While users are slightly more flexible, there are limitations too. Google AI Pro plan subscribers will speed up VEO 3 to get 3 generations per day, but only have access to VEO 2-based video generation until the limits are reset.
Meanwhile, the Google AI Ultra plan, which costs $250 per month, has a significantly higher request quota, Unlimited. If you have never tried VEO 3, go to Gemini Mobile or the web app. video Prompt bar options. You can also place it by tapping the 3-dot menu on the prompt bar.
While we don't trust the benefits of this tool, there are also misuse areas, like AI products. So it's not surprising that this is one of the important concerns of the early days of Veo 3's unfolding. To mitigate some of these potential issues, each video generated by Gemini has a SynthID digital watermark, but the generated video also has a visible VEO watermark.
