I have to talk about Sora 2. This is OpenAI's new video generation app, and it's both amazing and scary at the same time.
This is the first tool from an AI company that lets you type in a prompt and get up to a minute of professional AI-generated video in literally seconds. The result isn't perfect, but it's almost perfect. It's like being close to Hollywood.

The lighting, camera movements, facial expressions, everything is incredibly realistic.

AI videos are on the rise thanks to a new video generation app, Sora 2. (St. Petersburg)
Want to see a golden retriever surfing Times Square in slow motion? The end. A drone shot of a city built on clouds? Easy.
famous people who passed away
People are using Sora 2 to generate fake videos of dead celebrities doing things they never did.
- John F. Kennedy Deepfaked by WWE Superstar.
- tupac He appears with Mr. Rogers to talk about respect.
- Dr. Stephen Hawking Getting attacked in the UFC. Warning: I knew this was all AI, but it was still infuriating to watch. Strange, right?

Sen Sanders: AI needs to benefit everyone, not just a handful of billionaires
You probably know that under U.S. law, “defaming” someone only applies to the living person, not the dead person. This means families and estates have no legal recourse if someone uses AI to humiliate or misrepresent a loved one. For now it's free and no one is responsible.
Even creepier?

Sora is also used for stalking and impersonation. All you need is a photo and you can create a video of who is doing something. It could be anything from a fake crime to revenge plots to political lies.

OpenAI says permission is required to use a person's face or voice. Yeah, that's going to stop someone.
If the people running OpenAI can't stop their faces from being misused, what chance does the rest of us have? Currently, Sora 2 is only available as an iPhone app. It requires an OpenAI account, but it's still invite-only, so most people don't have access to it yet.

Sora 2 is a great tool. But it's been overused, and the guardrails are flimsy at best. So from now on, if a video goes viral, it's best to assume it's fake until it's proven to be real.
