Perplexity AI has officially rolled out the highly anticipated video generation feature for users working on the “Ask Perplexity” service on X. The feature was released on June 19th, allowing users to receive short AI-created videos by tweeting a prompt and tagging their @askperplexity account.
How the new AI-Video functionality works
Each video is approximately 8 seconds long and includes synced audio and dialogs. This is a notable advancement in real-time generated media on social platforms. New capabilities sparked a wave of engagement, with users testing the limits of AI's creativity. From animated samosa parties to satirical portrayals of global leaders, the range of fast ideas demonstrates public enthusiasm for this tool.
Despite its flexibility, Prplexity AI has reassured users that the system is equipped with robust protective measures to prevent misuse or inappropriate content generation.
The surge in popularity was immediately felt. Within hours of launch, the @askperplexity bot commented on Cheekily about the influx of messages. “I've read your video request DMS. Everyone needs help.” The lighthearted remarks chorded with followers, but that reflects the overwhelming amount of requests the platform received. Many users later reported increased latency for video responses, urging bots to admit delays and attribut them to high demand.
In particular, the development followed previous expansions of Perplexity AI in April, serving WhatsApp. Through the messaging app, users were given free access to Perplexity's AI research assistant, including tools for generating images and responding to queries.
The latest launch is another step in the platform's broader ambitions of integrating multimodal AI into everyday digital interactions. Currently, video tools are limited to X, but they could demonstrate future cross-platform capabilities as the confusion continues to evolve in the rapidly growing AI media landscape.
