Copilot, Microsoft’s latest AI-powered assistant, will be coming to OneNote, as the software giant announced last month.
This new tool acts as your note-taking partner to generate ideas, create lists, organize information, and more based on your prompts.
Copilot’s capabilities were first shown off in apps like Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but the Assistant’s integration into OneNote will have a big impact on how people take notes.
OneNote Product Manager Greg Mace explained how the new integration works. Much like Word, users can access his Copilot’s features via a sidebar interface, asking the AI assistant to rewrite, format, or summarize existing text.
Copilot can also create event plans and generate meeting topics and talking points.

Microsoft has yet to show off how Copilot’s inline integration works with OneNote, but the Word version of Copilot has inline support.
Users can highlight paragraphs. Hovering over a paragraph section will bring him to Copilot, which will automatically display the rewritten text.
Microsoft’s Copilot AI Assistant
The company didn’t provide a specific timeline for when the OneNote integration will be released to the general public, and currently only a small group of Microsoft 365 enterprise customers have access to preview versions of Copilot in Word and Outlook.
After testing Copilot on a private preview version of Word, the AI assistant generates text through machine learning algorithms.
However, this feature is still in its early stages and needs further refinement before it can be put into general use. Microsoft has been thoroughly testing Copilot before rolling it out more broadly, and the company hasn’t promised a specific date for his OneNote integration.
