Fujitsu today announced a strategic partnership with Cohere Inc., an enterprise AI company headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco with a focus on security and data privacy. The strategic partnership will focus on developing and delivering large-scale language models (LLMs) that help enterprises leverage industry-leading Japanese language capabilities to improve customer and employee experiences.
In addition, Fujitsu has made significant investments in both companies and entered into a strategic partnership. As part of this partnership, Fujitsu will provide the jointly developed services exclusively in the global market. Fujitsu plans to provide the jointly developed AI technology to customers through its cloud-based all-in-one operational platform, “Fujitsu Data Intelligence PaaS,” and its cross-industry business model, “Fujitsu Uvance,” which solves social issues.
In addition, the two companies will jointly develop an advanced Japanese model, tentatively named “Takane,” based on Cohere's cutting-edge enterprise-level LLM, and Fujitsu plans to begin offering the AI model through “Fujitsu Kozuchi” from September 2024. “Takane” (tentative name) will be provided for private environments such as private clouds, providing an optimal combination of excellent AI services in a security-guaranteed environment for corporate data.
Takane (provisional name) is based on Cohere's latest LLM, Command R+, and features enhanced Search Augmentation Generation (RAG). (1) A multilingual model with hallucination-reducing capabilities. Trained from scratch on proprietary data, it is secure and transparent. Takane (tentative name) leverages Fujitsu's expertise in Japanese language training and fine-tuning technology and Cohere's enterprise-class technology.
“Takane” (tentative name) will focus on important needs such as improving productivity and efficiency in specific industries and business processes, and will be developed as a service that can be used on private clouds for customers who demand high levels of security, such as financial institutions, government agencies, and research and development departments.
In addition to high-performance generative AI models, Cohere also features best-in-class embedding capabilities. (2) Re-ranking (3) We use models to deliver advanced enterprise search applications and RAG technologies that enable companies to derive real business value from their data.
Fujitsu has been working on the research and development of knowledge graphs, a knowledge processing technology, for many years, and has developed knowledge graph augmented RAG technology that converts a company's diverse and large-scale data into a knowledge graph that can be referenced by LLM, and generative AI audit technology that realizes generative AI that complies with companies and laws and regulations. Fujitsu plans to start offering knowledge graph augmented RAG technology from “Fujitsu Kozuchi” in July 2024, and generative AI audit technology in September 2024.
In addition, the “Takane” (tentative name) model developed through this collaboration, various models for specific domains, and existing machine learning models will be integrated with Fujitsu's generative AI fusion technology, which will be available from Fujitsu's “FUJITSU Kozuchi” from August 2024, to achieve the high level of generative AI required by companies.
Through this joint development, Fujitsu and Cohere will further promote the use of AI in companies and accelerate digital transformation in global markets.
“Fujitsu is committed to delivering on this vision and is committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers,” said Vivek Mahajan, Corporate Vice President, CTO and CPO, Fujitsu Limited.
“We are very pleased to strengthen our enterprise generative AI portfolio through our collaboration with Cohere. Fujitsu has developed knowledge graph augmented RAG technology for logical inference and generative AI fusion technology to automatically generate specialized generative AI models to meet the diverse needs of enterprises. By combining these with Cohere's latest highly secure enterprise LLM, we aim to provide enterprises with powerful and adaptable AI solutions that address their specific needs and accelerate the global adoption of generative AI.”
Aidan Gomez, co-founder and CEO of Cohere Inc., commented:
“We see our strategic partnership with Fujitsu as a truly important step in delivering world-class LLM capabilities to one of the most important enterprise markets in the world. For AI technology to reach its full potential, it needs to be able to serve businesses wherever they are – whether that's in a company's own cloud environment or the language in which they do business. We are excited to work with Fujitsu to unlock the tremendous potential of Cohere's technology to empower the next generation of Japanese businesses.”
