Designers Krista Perry, Larissa Martinez, and Jay Baron allege in the lawsuit that Shane’s artificial intelligence, in particular, is smart enough to make an exact copy that would do a lot of damage to an independent designer’s career. The complaint alleges that Shayne’s conduct violated the Corrupt Conducting Organizations Act (RICO). This law was enacted in her 1970 and was first used against the American Mafia.

The designers, who are seeking a jury trial, allege in the lawsuit that the fast-fashion giant’s misconduct was “not by a single entity, but by a de facto coalition of multiple entities.” . They allege that RICO is related to the lawsuit because it was set up to “address guilty individual cog misconduct in large corporations.”

Asked for comment, Shein sent TechCrunch a canned response, explaining that the company takes such allegations seriously. The company added that it would “resolutely defend”.

Shein is one of the fastest growing online retailers on the planet and is no stranger to allegations that it habitually spoils artists, workers and the environment. The company has a history of cracking down on violations of local labor laws.

Yet even amidst the grim headlines, Shane is trying to market itself as an environmentally conscious and socially conscious company. A recent campaign also attracted some influencers, but it quickly backfired.
