For years, RM was the only member of BTS without a driver’s license. This is a common joke among fans.

RM released his first driving video to fans.
It’s official! RM finally got behind the wheel. On February 18, the BTS leader posted a short video of himself driving, sending fans into a spiral of emotions as he reached a long-awaited milestone in his life.
For years, RM was the only member of BTS without a driver’s license. This is a common joke among fans. Things changed in December 2025, when he revealed during a Weverse live that he passed his driving test on the second try. At age 31, it was a small but meaningful personal victory.
RM’s driving debut breaks the internet
The 16-second clip, set to Seo Taiji’s song “Moai,” shows RM confidently driving a Hyundai sedan. His caption, which roughly translates to “#ImFunnyToo laughing while driving,” perfectly captured his giddy excitement.
Fans immediately flooded social media with congratulatory messages, calling it a “historic moment” for ARMY. Many admitted to feeling strangely emotional watching him drive, with one fan writing that it felt like a “page had been turned”. “This is the first time in my bloodline that I’ve seen Namjoon drive a car,” one person joked.
However, it was RM’s mother who stole the spotlight.
“Mom, it’s real, it’s not AI.”
Shortly after sharing the driving footage, RM posted a screenshot of his text exchange with his mother. In the message, she questioned whether the man in the video was actually him or an AI creation. “It looks real,” she wrote, looking unconvinced.
RM’s response was simple and reassuring. “Mom, it’s real. It’s not AI.” Fans burst out laughing at the wholesome exchange. Many people have joked that no matter how famous or successful someone becomes, parents will always keep their children grounded and give them the occasional pep talk.
Meanwhile, fellow BTS member J-Hope added more fun. On the same day, during his 32nd birthday live session, a fan asked him if he had the courage to go for a drive with RM. After a dramatic pause and visible hesitation, he smiled and replied: “someday!”
The playful response only added to the fun online, with fans teasing that even his bandmates might take some time to fully trust RM’s new skills. Some astute observers noted from the clip that his careful maneuvering suggested he was indeed a novice.
