The company plans to establish a local team in Sydney to strengthen collaboration with businesses, research institutions, and policy makers as AI adoption accelerates across multiple sectors.

Expanding presence in Asia Pacific

Anthropic said the new office will initially focus on supporting corporate, start-up and research clients across Australia and New Zealand.

The company is already working with several organizations in the region, including companies such as Canva, Quantium and Commonwealth Bank of Australia, as well as startups developing AI applications across sectors such as agricultural technology, climate technology and robotics.

Chris Ciauri, international managing director at Anthropic, said the expansion reflects how organizations in the region are applying AI across multiple industries. “We are excited about the ways Australian and New Zealand organizations are applying AI to areas of national importance, including financial services, agricultural technology, clean energy innovation, healthcare delivery, cutting-edge deep technology and scientific research, and even AI transformation within the enterprise.”

Strong regional usage of Claude

Anthropic says Australia and New Zealand have relatively high adoption of the Claude AI platform compared to other regions.

The company’s economic indicators rank Australia fourth in the world and New Zealand eighth in terms of Claude usage relative to population. According to the company, users in both countries frequently use the system for coding work, research, and educational guidance.

The company has already started building its local team in Sydney ahead of the office opening.

Anthropic executives also plan to visit Australia in late March to formalize the partnership and meet with business customers, policy makers and research institutions.

Alongside the new office, Anthropic says it is exploring options to expand its Australian computing infrastructure through third-party partners. The company says local capacity is frequently requested by businesses and government agencies in the region, especially those that require data residency.

Anthropic says discussions about long-term infrastructure development are still in the early stages.
