'AI' to rapidly change the landscape of healthcare and medicine: Experts – Pakistan

LAHORE: Like other industries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the healthcare and medical landscape, and this emerging technology and its capabilities have the potential to revolutionize medicine by redefining the doctor-patient relationship.

This was stated by speakers at a seminar on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare organised by the Punjab Neuroscience Institute on Wednesday, which featured special guest Dr Basma Ali of Harvard Medical School, Boston, US, who delivered an enlightening talk on the subject.

According to speakers, AI can help clinicians take a more holistic approach to disease management, better tailor care plans, and help patients better manage and adhere to long-term treatment programs. One of the main uses of AI in healthcare is in medical imaging. Algorithms are trained on vast amounts of medical data to analyze CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, microscopic images, and other medical images.

Dr. Basma Ali, a renowned expert in the field of AI, discussed the latest advancements and applications of AI in healthcare, highlighting its potential to revolutionize patient care, diagnosis and treatment strategies.

Prof. Asif Bashir, Executive Director, Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, stressed the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies such as AI into Pakistan's healthcare system. He also highlighted PINS' efforts to leverage AI to enhance medical practices and provide superior healthcare to patients across the region.

“The adoption of AI technology in Pakistan marks a major step towards advancements in healthcare,” said Prof. Asif Bashir, adding, “By adopting AI, we aim to introduce innovative solutions that will optimize diagnostic accuracy, streamline the treatment process and ultimately improve patient outcomes.”

The seminar attracted medical professionals, researchers and academicians keen to explore the potential of AI in healthcare. Participants engaged in lively discussions and exchanged views on integrating AI-driven technologies into clinical practice.
