AI/ML and analytics continue to lead job demand: Nasscom-Indeed 2024 Report
According to a report from INDINT and IT Industry Body Nasscom, AI is being adopted across organizational functions, so AI/ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) and data analytics expertise continues to be dominated as the most in-demand technical role in India.

The role of high-tech jobs in India

The top five duties roles include data scientists/analysts, AI/ML experts, cybersecurity specialists, cloud architects/engineers and DevOps engineers, as highlighted in the fourth edition of the Future of Work 2024 report released Friday. The report points out that demand for the Aire LED job family will increase by 1.6 times as cybersecurity will become the second most sought after domain beyond the cloud.

Hybrid Work Shift

The future of work remains primarily hybrid, but the report shows that return to the office has gained momentum, with an average office time gaining 1.2 times. Key factors for this shift include the need for stronger cultural connections, enhanced cross-team collaboration, improved employee engagement, increased leadership interactions, role-specific or customer-driven requirements, and the need for a more immersive learning experience.

To explore the future of work, workforce and workplaces, Nasscom actually launched the fourth edition of its Future of Work Report.

“The advancements in technology, particularly AI and ML, are driving change in the job market and restructuring the skills needed. Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, NasscomAccording to media reports.

“Nearly 70% of respondents want to apply new skills in their actual settings, so this report highlights the need for organizations to bridge the gap between current preparation and future demands.” In fact, India's sales manager Sashi Kumar. “Combining human creativity with AI-driven innovation allows businesses to lead with confidence in this new era of work.”

The adoption of genai tools has increased

The adoption of Generator AI (Genai) tools has increased over the past year, with technology evolving from the proof-of-concept stage to a wide range of commercial applications. Today, the majority of the workforce is actively using Genai for a wide range of applications, including coding, programming, and content creation.

According to the report, current and future workforce (students) are leveraging AI/Genai in particular for learning and development, seeking general knowledge, improving communication skills, guidance and advice, and exploring the vast capabilities of AI.

Gig model rise

Regarding Genai use, approximately 55% of the current and future workforce are frequent users of Genai. ChatGpt and Copilot are the most commonly used tools. Gen Z and Millennials continue to represent a large part of the high-tech workforce.

Furthermore, there is a significant increase in motivation in both the current and future workforce to adopt the gig model. “Around 35% of each group expressed openness to gig opportunities, up significantly from 23% in the current workforce and 28% in the future workforce the previous year,” according to the report.

AI-equipped HR process

HR processes are becoming increasingly technically compatible across the value chain. According to the report, AI, analytics and cloud technology are forming the “Holy Trinity” that leads this shift. Companies leverage AI in various aspects of their recruitment and employment processes, including automating CV screening to identify relevant candidates, generating gender-neutral job descriptions, strengthening knowledge sharing and learning initiatives, and streamlining candidate evaluations.
