A complaint has been registered regarding a deepfake video purportedly featuring actor Ranveer Singh being spread through his social media accounts, his representative confirmed on Monday.
Recently, the internet saw a widely shared video in which Mr. Singh appeared to express his political views. The footage, which appears to have been altered using AI technology, is derived from an interview he took part in during a visit to Varanasi for a fashion event.
Singh took legal action by filing a complaint, leading to the initiation of an FIR, which is currently being investigated by the Cyber Crime Investigation Department.
“A legal complaint has been filed and an FIR has been filed against the social media accounts that circulated the AI-manipulated deepfake video of Ranveer Singh,” Singh's spokesperson said.

Prior to this incident, a similar AI-altered video featuring Aamir Khan also gained attention online. The video purports to show Mr Khan supporting a political party. Later, the Mumbai Police filed an FIR against unknown individuals in connection with the video.
