This minor was originally proposed by Georgia Tech's biomedical engineering department leaders and external advisory board members to provide students with more AI and ML curriculum.
“AI is pervasive in so many fields, and biomedical engineering students need to have that background before and after graduation,” says Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University Wallace H. Students in both courses are required to take three core courses and two electives, including a philosophy of AI ethics and policy course.
Engineering courses are offered in six of the university's eight schools: biomedical, chemical, electrical and computer, industrial systems, materials, and mechanical engineering. Topics range from robotics to biomedical AI to signal processing.
IAC courses cover topics including economics, language and computers, race and gender, digital media, and machine learning for public policy.
The organizers have developed several new courses to create a minor course. Desai has already heard from other Georgia Tech schools and schools about adding classes and looks forward to expanding this initiative to benefit even more Georgia Tech undergraduates.
