As part of a major push to simplify video creation, Google rolled out a major update to its video tool, Google Vids, adding a range of AI-powered features designed to make content creation faster, easier, and more accessible.
Google Vids, released last year as part of the Google Workspace suite, was built to make it easy for users to create video presentations with minimal effort. This already included features such as automatic storyboarding, scene suggestions, stock visuals, and background music. However, with the latest update, the platform has taken a more advanced AI-driven approach, allowing users to generate much of the content instead of building it manually.
One of the standout additions is free AI-powered video generation. With Google’s latest model, Veo 3.1, users can now create short video clips by simply entering a text prompt or uploading a photo. According to Google, all personal accounts will receive up to 10 generations of videos for free each month. This feature is expected to be especially useful for creating quick social media posts, greeting clips, or basic promotional content without the need for technical editing skills. For users with higher demands, limits can be extended through paid plans.
This update also introduces AI-generated music through Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro. These tools allow users to create custom soundtracks that match the mood and style of their videos. The company says Google AI Pro and Ultra plan subscribers can generate music clips ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. This eliminates the need to search for royalty-free tracks or edit audio separately, making the entire production process more seamless.
Another major feature is the introduction of AI avatars. These avatars act as on-screen presenters, providing a consistent face and voice throughout the video. Veo 3.1 allows users to place their avatars in different scenes, interact with objects, and customize backgrounds. This eliminates the need for repeated recordings and opens up new possibilities for tutorials, storytelling, and marketing content.
Users can also extensively customize their avatar by adjusting clothing, facial features, and environment while maintaining the same voice and identity. This flexibility allows creators to match the tone of their content, whether it’s a travel blog, educational project, or casual social media video.
To further streamline your workflow, Google has added a screen recording extension to Google Chrome. This allows users to capture their screen and themselves directly from their browser without having to open the Vids platform separately. This integration makes recording faster and more convenient, especially for demonstrations and walkthroughs.
Sharing content just got easier. Users will now be able to upload videos to YouTube directly from within Google Vids, eliminating the need to manually download and re-upload them. By default, videos are uploaded as private, giving creators time to review and adjust their content before publishing.
With top-tier subscribers able to generate up to 1,000 AI videos per month, Google clearly positions Vids as a comprehensive, all-in-one video creation platform powered by artificial intelligence.
